About All Laser LASIK

How does LASIK work?

LASIK (laser-assisted in situ keratomileusis) vision correction is used to treat myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness) and astigmatism. The LASIK surgery is performed as a quick and simple outpatient procedure. LASIK is essentially a quick and simple 3-step process:
  • A thin flap of corneal tissue is painlessly created using a laser or a device known as a microkeratome.
  • Once the flap is made and the underlying corneal tissue (stroma), is exposed, the laser reshapes the cornea using a laser light.
  • Then, the flap is repositioned and the procedure is complete.

I want LASIK. What is my first step?

Glad you asked!  The first step is to give us a call and schedule a free no-risk consult! After a few simple tests and an in-depth eye exam to make sure LASIK (or another one of our great procedures) is right for you. We’ll then schedule your procedure for a day and time that fits your schedule (even on the weekend)! Your 1-day, 1-week and 1-month follow-up appointments will be coordinated with your optometrist.

Does LASIK hurt?

Most patients describe the sensation during LASIK as a slight pressure. At the start of the procedure, our doctors will apply numbing drops, so there are no injections involved.Depending on the patient, the doctor may have them take medication beforehand to help them relax. Most LASIK patients are back to regular routines the next day.

How much does LASIK cost?

Oftentimes, people think that they cannot afford LASIK, but that is just not the case. LASIK is more affordable than most people think. Add up all of your expenses for one year for contacts and/or glasses and multiply that by a few years. In many cases, patients report that their LASIK actually pays for itself (as compared to glasses and contacts) over the course of 2-3 years. Plus, we offer affordable financing options that help All Laser LASIK from ICON Eyecare fit in a variety of budgets.

“I’ve worn glasses for nearly 15 years; there’s been so many pairs broken, scratched or have went missing. It was time for a change. If you’re considering a change from contacts or glasses, I highly recommend Icon Eyecare. It’s been a life-changing experience and my only regret was not doing it sooner!”

Brandon

Brandon “ICON was fantastic in educating me about the specifics of keratoconus and how corneal cross linking will help my eyes. Knowing my eyes are now stronger and more stable is really an invaluable feeling, and I can’t thank everyone at ICON enough!”
